A Fine Line - Between Chaos and Creation

Everybody seems to think I'm lazy; I don't mind, I think they're crazy...

NaBloPoMo 2010 - Day Thirteen
I Am Clever
Day Thirteen! Almost halfway done! :D

So, the other day was Remembrance Day. And I spent it the way I've spent the last 5 Remembrance Days - down in White Rock, taking part in the ceremony there with cadets.

Anyway, what happens is that we start at a school, then march in a short parade with air cadets, boy scouts/girl guides, RCMP, Legion members and more, down past the cenotaph, to a church. There's a service held in there (we and the air cadets get relegated to the basement to listen over the speakers, as there's not enough room up top), then we march back to the cenotaph and they lay wreaths and all.

Everything went according to the way it should have gone; even my weather prediction (cloudy/grey and windy, but no rain) was right. However, there was something that bothered me during the service.

They opened with our national anthem and a hymn (O God, Our Help In Ages Past), then went into a prayer. And the prayer is what bothered me.

When they began it, the woman who was saying the prayer said, and I quote: "Oh great and wondrous God of every nation and every faith..." and that just stuck with me for the rest of the day.

That woman may have been praying, but she wasn't talking to my God. She was making a generalization, one meant to not offend anyone's religion. (Ed. note: which, according to my dad, is what a United church does - include everything so not to offend anyone.)

God is not "of every faith". If He was, then that would mean that every religion is equally valid, and everyone's beliefs will eventually get them to Heaven. The Bible clearly contradicts this in John 14:6 - "Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.".

So while these people may have meant well, they were still 'doin it wrong', to quote an internet meme.

So yeah. I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for reading.

I really don't like when people try to say that any way is the way to heaven/happiness. Because it's not. I know how you feel about that.
