A Fine Line - Between Chaos and Creation

Everybody seems to think I'm lazy; I don't mind, I think they're crazy...

I Am Clever
Today is Day Six. Almost one week! :D

Today, I give you something that's bugged me for a while - the issue of 'love' and teenagers.

What bugs me is where you get kids in between the ages of 12-16 (the younger they are, the more it irritates me), who are 'going out', and they claim that they 'love' each other.

I mean, really? Do you even have a concept of what love actually is? Or are you just riding high on the emotions?

Love is a serious commitment. It doesn't have to do with emotions (although, those do enhance it).

When you tell someone that you love them, what you're telling them is that you promise to be completely honest to them, to be faithful to them no matter what. Promising to stay with them throughout both the good and the bad times, sharing in both their laughter and their tears. You may not always agree with everything that they do, think they're good-looking, or always think that they're a good friend - heck, some days, they may drive you right up the wall - but no matter what, you will always be there for them and would do anything for them.

I came to this realization this summer, with the help of my friend tenor_dude. I realized that the subject of love made a whole lot more sense when viewed in that way (I'd been trying to define it before, but never could come up with anything that seemed quite right).

The scenario that helped me to make more sense of it, as well, was with my brothers. I don't always like them, or think they're the greatest of people (let's face it, the majority of the time, they drive me nuts), but in the end, if someone was trying to hurt them, or they needed help, I'd do it for them because I love them. I've committed to that.

And that's what love should mean for us, when applied to romantic interests, or anything else.
